Devlog #5 Road to Alpha 0.2
Ever since I started developing this office game, I've struggled with structuring the work. Currently, I'm using Trello as a kind of "Post-it Board" to track what I'm doing and what I plan to do in the near future.
While I still have tasks that are beneficial to the game, I'm getting stuck on eliminating small bugs, fixing minor graphical issues, and... remaking the entire layout for the office. Here's the process of creating a new office layout, adding potential spots for windows, doors, and other features to make the space a better working environment.
I'm using MagicaVoxel for all the in-game objects, except for the premium assets that I purchase. Now, we're approaching the next development milestone, which I'm calling Alpha 2.0 for the moment. It's strange figuring out how to version and structure the game updates. For now, each time I add or fix smaller things, it becomes a new alpha version. When significant changes happen, I increment the second number. To reach Alpha 2.0, the following will be implemented:
- Add ways to communicate with the "enemies," who are our colleagues.
- Add a whole new floor called "The Server Hall," where the player can easily get lost.
- Add secret compartments and hatches that the player can use to avoid enemies, at the cost of movement speed.
- Finalize a balance system for gold and XP, including how to earn and lose them.
